Meet Dom — A Photographer Who's Terrible With His Money

Hey — I'm Domenic Mazzuca, a Canadian photographer and the founder of Enhance Finance. I used to hate everything about personal finance. Not because I didn't care — because every tool I tried made me feel like I needed an accounting degree just to figure out where my money was actually going each month.

I've won awards for my photography, but if you'd asked me three years ago where my money was actually going each month, I'd have given you a confident shrug and changed the subject. Creatives chase golden hour, not balanced budgets.

The Spreadsheet That Didn't Exist

I tried the apps. Mint, YNAB, Copilot — they all had the same problem. Too many menus, too much maintenance, and I'd abandon them within weeks. I tried spreadsheets too, but the ones online came with 45-minute tutorials and required hours of manual entry.

I kept thinking: there has to be a way to just paste my bank statement and have it all figured out. The categories, the merchant names, the dashboards — everything.

That tool didn't exist. So I built it.

Enhance Finance

Three Years. Thousands of Hours.

What started as a weekend project turned into a three-year obsession. I’ve spent thousands of hours getting to know Google Sheets and Excel inside and out — learning Apps Script, building automation systems, breaking things, and rebuilding them better.

More Saturday nights than I can count were spent inside, head down, refining formulas and testing edge cases to get the performance professional level and easy to use.

From 40 Tabs to 6 That Matter

The original prototypes were similar to the typical sheets — 40 tabs, horrible UI and UX experience, confusing — but I reworked what someone actually needs from the ground up. The sheet not having 40+ tabs is a feature, not a failure.

Every late night got the product closer to something I knew would actually work — not just for me, but for anyone who’s ever felt overwhelmed by their finances.

How I Use It Every Month

Here's my actual routine. Less than 5 minutes on the first of each month — and that's it.

1

Download Bank CSVs

Log into my bank, download last month's statement as a CSV, and paste it into the Input Statements tab.

2

Click AI Sort

One click on "AI Sort" and every transaction is categorized with the merchant name identified. Review, fix any rare misses, and log.

3

Check the Dashboard

The monthly dashboard updates automatically. I see exactly where my money went, check my budget, and move on with my life.

No reconciling, no manual entry, no forgetting for three months and spending a weekend catching up. The system remembers my patterns, so each month gets faster than the last.

"I built this because I was the exact person who needed it most — a creative who cared about money but couldn't be bothered to track it. If it works for me, it'll work for anyone."
— Domenic Mazzuca

Where This Is Going

Enhance Finance started as a single Google Sheet I built for myself. But the vision is bigger than a spreadsheet. I'm building toward a platform that makes personal finance effortless — not just for spreadsheet people, but for everyone.

Smarter Templates

Specialized templates for freelancers, small businesses, couples, and students — each with tailored categories and dashboards.

Deeper AI Functionality

More intelligent analysis — trend detection, spending forecasts, and a system that gets even smarter the longer you use it.

Real Software Solutions

Working toward standalone tools and mobile / desktop apps that bring the same zero-setup philosophy to people who don't want to live in Google Sheets.

Privacy First, Always

No matter how the product evolves, the core principle stays: your financial data belongs to you, and only you.
